Sarcozona

Sarcozona is a monotypic genus of flowering plant in the family Asparagaceae, subfamily Lomandroideae. The sole species in the genus is Sarcozona praerupta, commonly known as the Drooping Pearlflower.

Sarcozona praerupta is a succulent perennial herb endemic to coastal areas of southern Western Australia. It is characterised by its fleshy, cylindrical leaves and distinctive drooping flower heads consisting of numerous small, pearl-like flowers. The plant typically grows to a height of 10-30cm and spreads by underground rhizomes, forming colonies.

The species prefers sandy or gravelly soils and is often found in coastal heathlands and shrublands. Flowering typically occurs in spring (August to October). The flowers are pollinated by insects.

Sarcozona praerupta is relatively hardy and drought-tolerant, making it suitable for cultivation in native plant gardens in similar climates. Propagation is typically achieved through seed or division of rhizomes. The plant is considered to have low conservation concern.
