Sapphire Blue (2014 film)
Sapphire Blue is a 2014 German science fiction film based on the novel Sapphire Blue by Kerstin Gier, the second book in the Gemstone Trilogy. It is a sequel to the 2013 film Ruby Red.
The film follows Gwendolyn Shepherd (Maria Ehrich), a time-traveling teenager, as she navigates the mysteries and dangers surrounding her abilities and the secret society of time travelers, the Lodge. After discovering she is the final gem, with the "sapphire" gene, she must work with Gideon de Villiers (Jannis Niewöhner), a fellow time traveler and the diamond, to unlock the secrets of the time-traveling gene.
The film continues the storyline from Ruby Red, exploring themes of love, destiny, and the ethical implications of time travel. Gwendolyn and Gideon continue their training and time jumps while attempting to uncover the motives of Count Saint Germain, the leader of the Lodge. They face challenges including romantic entanglements, dangerous missions through different historical periods, and the growing realization that the Lodge may not be as benevolent as it appears. The film concludes with several plot points left unresolved, setting the stage for the final installment, Emerald Green.
