Sam Martin (American football)
Sam Martin (born February 6, 1990) is an American football punter for the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Appalachian State University and was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL Draft.
Early Life and College Career
Martin was born in Fayetteville, Georgia. He attended Starr's Mill High School, where he excelled in both football and soccer. He then attended Appalachian State University, where he was the Mountaineers' punter from 2009 to 2012. During his college career, he set school records for punting average and total punting yards.
Professional Career
Martin was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the fifth round (165th overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft. He served as the Lions' punter from 2013 to 2019. During his time in Detroit, he established himself as one of the league's top punters, consistently ranking among the leaders in net punting average and punts inside the 20-yard line. He was known for his accuracy and ability to control the ball.
In 2020, Martin signed with the Denver Broncos. He played two seasons for the Broncos.
In 2022, Martin signed with the Buffalo Bills. He is currently the Bills' punter.
