STS-94

STS-94 was a NASA Space Shuttle mission flown by Space Shuttle Columbia in July 1997. It was the second flight of the Microgravity Science Laboratory (MSL-1), a Spacelab module dedicated to microgravity research. The mission was designated as a reflight (MSL-1R) because the original MSL-1 mission (STS-83) in April 1997 was cut short due to a problem with one of Columbia's three fuel cells. All experiments from STS-83 were successfully reflown on STS-94.

The primary objectives of STS-94 centered around conducting scientific experiments in the unique low-gravity environment of space. Research areas included combustion science, fluid physics, and materials science. The data gathered aimed to improve our understanding of these phenomena, potentially leading to advancements in various fields on Earth.

The crew of STS-94 consisted of seven astronauts: Commander James Halsell, Pilot Susan Still, Mission Specialists Janice Voss, Michael Gernhardt, Donald Thomas, Roger Crouch, and Gregory Linteris. The mission lasted approximately 15 days, 16 hours, and 45 minutes, orbiting the Earth 251 times. Columbia landed at the Kennedy Space Center on July 17, 1997.
