Ruth Leaf

Ruth Leaf (1916-2015) was an American printmaker, painter, and educator known for her abstract expressionist and surrealist-influenced works. She was born in New York City and studied at the Art Students League, Atelier 17 with Stanley William Hayter, and with Max Beckmann.

Leaf was particularly noted for her innovative printmaking techniques, including her use of collage, embossing, and unconventional materials. Her prints often featured layers of texture and vibrant colors, reflecting her interest in exploring the subconscious and the natural world.

She exhibited widely throughout her career, with solo shows at institutions such as the Brooklyn Museum and the Philadelphia Print Club.
