Russ Smith (publisher)

Russ Smith is an American journalist, editor, and publisher known primarily for his alternative newsweeklies and online publications. He founded the New York Press in 1988, serving as its editor and publisher. The New York Press became known for its provocative and often contrarian viewpoints, as well as its focus on local New York City issues and culture. Smith left the New York Press in 2007.

Following his departure from the New York Press, Smith launched several other ventures, including The American Spectator Digital, where he served as publisher. He has also contributed to various other publications and maintained a presence in online media through personal blogs and websites. Smith's writing and publishing are often characterized by libertarian and conservative perspectives, alongside a willingness to challenge conventional wisdom.
