Robert Lindsay (actor)
Robert Lindsay (born Robert Stevenson, 13 January 1949) is an English actor. He is best known for his television roles, particularly as "Wolfie" Smith in the BBC sitcom Citizen Smith (1977-1980) and as Ben Harper in the BBC sitcom My Family (2000-2011).
Lindsay trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) and began his career in theatre. He gained early recognition for his stage work, particularly in musicals. He has won three Laurence Olivier Awards: for Me and My Girl (1985), Becket (1994), and Oliver! (1998).
Beyond Citizen Smith and My Family, Lindsay's television credits include GBH, Jake's Progress, Hornblower, and Spy. He has also appeared in films, including Fierce Creatures and Wimbledon.
Lindsay is noted for his versatility as a performer, successfully transitioning between comedic and dramatic roles across stage, television, and film.
