Robert Ferguson (Carlisle MP)

Robert Ferguson (1767-1840) was a Scottish Whig politician and landowner who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Carlisle from 1820 to 1830, and later for Haddingtonshire. He was the son of William Ferguson of Raith.

His political career primarily focused on advocating for reform, aligning with the Whig platform of the time. He was a staunch supporter of parliamentary reform, pushing for greater representation of the people. Beyond national politics, Ferguson was also involved in local affairs and agricultural improvements on his estates.

He married Mary Munro in 1799, and they had several children. His lineage is connected to other prominent figures of the era, contributing to the network of influence and power dynamics within British society during the 19th century. He is remembered as a moderate reformer and a representative of the landed gentry in Parliament.
