River Teviot

The River Teviot is a major tributary of the River Tweed in the Scottish Borders. Rising in the hills southwest of Hawick, it flows generally northeastward, passing through or near the towns of Hawick, Jedburgh, and Roxburgh, before joining the River Tweed near Kelso. The river is approximately 36 miles (58 km) long.

The Teviot is known for its salmon and trout fishing, and historically has been an important source of water for industry, including the textile mills of Hawick. The Teviot valley, or Teviotdale, is a historically significant region of the Scottish Borders, and the river has played a prominent role in local history, folklore, and agriculture. The river's catchment area includes a variety of landscapes, from upland moors to fertile agricultural land. The A698 road roughly parallels the river for much of its course.
