RMR (revolver)
The term "RMR" in the context of revolvers most commonly refers to the Trijicon Ruggedized Miniature Reflex sight. This is a popular red dot optic often adapted for use on pistols, including revolvers, typically for faster target acquisition and improved accuracy.
While revolvers traditionally utilize iron sights, the incorporation of an RMR or similar red dot sight has become increasingly common, especially in competitive shooting and for personal defense. The installation often involves modifying the revolver, typically by milling a section of the top strap or rear sight area to accommodate the optic's mounting footprint. Adapter plates may also be used.
The benefits of using an RMR on a revolver include enhanced visibility of the aiming point in various lighting conditions, reduced parallax compared to iron sights, and a more intuitive shooting experience for some users. However, the addition of an RMR also adds bulk and weight to the revolver, and may require a change in holster. Furthermore, the electronic nature of the optic introduces a potential point of failure, necessitating regular battery checks and maintenance.
