R147 road (Ireland)

The R147 is a regional road in Ireland. It runs from Dublin city centre to Navan, County Meath, a distance of approximately 50 km (31 mi).

The R147 largely follows the route of the former N3 national primary road before it was upgraded to a motorway. As such, it travels through various towns and villages along the way, including Clonee, Dunboyne, and Kells (briefly).

The road's characteristics vary significantly along its length. Portions closer to Dublin are more urban, with frequent traffic lights and pedestrian crossings. Further out, towards Navan, the road becomes more rural, with higher speed limits.

The R147 provides access to numerous local amenities and businesses along its route. It also serves as a feeder road to the M3 motorway for traffic heading towards Navan and beyond. Alternative, more direct routes between Dublin and Navan exist, most notably the M3 motorway, and thus the R147 primarily serves local traffic.
