Quiet Nights (Diana Krall album)
Quiet Nights is a studio album by Canadian jazz pianist and vocalist Diana Krall, released on March 31, 2009, by Verve Records. The album is Krall's tenth studio album and primarily features bossa nova arrangements.
Quiet Nights explores a romantic and intimate atmosphere, largely inspired by the bossa nova music of Antônio Carlos Jobim. The album includes both classic bossa nova standards and original compositions. Krall collaborated with Claus Ogerman, who provided the orchestrations. Ogerman had previously worked with Krall on her 2001 album, The Look of Love.
The album's tracklist features songs such as "Quiet Nights," "The Boy from Ipanema," "Este Seu Olhar," and "So Nice (Summer Samba)." The performances are characterized by Krall's signature sultry vocals and elegant piano playing, complemented by the lush orchestral arrangements.
Quiet Nights received generally positive reviews, with critics praising Krall's vocal performance and the album's overall ambiance. The album was a commercial success, reaching the top of the Billboard Top Jazz Albums chart and achieving gold certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). It was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Vocal Jazz Album.
