Puzosia

Puzosia is an extinct genus of ammonite cephalopods belonging to the superfamily Desmocerataceae. These marine animals existed during the Cretaceous period, primarily from the late Albian to the Turonian stages. They are characterized by their involute, compressed shells, typically ornamented with subtle, rounded ribs or striae. The suture lines (the patterns where the shell chambers meet the outer shell) are complex and ceratitic, meaning they have rounded saddles and serrated lobes.

Puzosia is a relatively cosmopolitan genus, with fossils found in various locations worldwide, including Europe, North America, Africa, and Asia. This wide distribution makes them useful for biostratigraphy, helping to correlate rock layers across different geographical areas.

Distinguishing Puzosia from other similar ammonite genera can be challenging and often requires careful examination of the shell morphology, particularly the suture patterns and ornamentation. The genus is significant in understanding the evolution and diversification of ammonites during the Cretaceous period.
