Prisoja

Prisoja is a term primarily used in Croatian and Serbian languages (and sometimes in related Balkan languages) to denote the sunny or sun-exposed side of something, most often a house or building. It can also refer to a sunny slope or hillside. The word carries a connotation of warmth, light, and comfort derived from sun exposure.

Specifically, the "prisoja" is the side of a structure that receives the most direct sunlight, especially during the cooler months. This aspect is often considered desirable in construction and home buying, as it can contribute to passive solar heating, reducing energy consumption and improving the overall living environment. The opposite of "prisoja" is "osoj" or "osojnica," which refers to the shady or north-facing side.
