Ulvøysund

Ulvøysund is a narrow strait and a corresponding small settlement located in the Kragerø municipality of Vestfold og Telemark county, Norway. It separates the island of Ulvøya from the mainland.

The strait, navigable by boat, is a popular passage for leisure craft, particularly during the summer months. The settlement of Ulvøysund, situated on the mainland side of the strait, consists primarily of summer residences, but also includes some permanent dwellings. There are limited commercial establishments in Ulvøysund, typically catering to the seasonal tourist trade.

Historically, Ulvøysund served as a strategically important waterway. The narrowness of the passage allowed for control of maritime traffic, although no significant historical fortifications or battles are directly associated with the location. The name "Ulvøysund" translates roughly to "Ulvøy Strait," deriving from the island Ulvøya’s name.

The surrounding area is characterized by typical coastal landscape of the Skagerrak region, featuring smooth, rocky shores, pine forests, and scattered islands. The waters around Ulvøysund are also popular for fishing and other water sports.
