Poseidon (film)
Poseidon is a 2006 American disaster film directed by Wolfgang Petersen. It is a loose remake of the 1972 film The Poseidon Adventure, which was itself based on the 1969 novel of the same name by Paul Gallico. The film stars Josh Lucas, Kurt Russell, Jacinda Barrett, Richard Dreyfuss, and Emmy Rossum.
The film centers on a group of passengers aboard the fictional luxury cruise ship Poseidon on New Year's Eve. The ship is capsized by a rogue wave in the North Atlantic Ocean. The film follows the survivors as they attempt to navigate the overturned vessel and escape.
Poseidon was produced and distributed by Warner Bros. It was released in the United States on May 12, 2006. The film received mixed reviews from critics and was a box office disappointment. Its visual effects, particularly the wave sequence, were praised, but the plot and character development were generally criticized. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.
