Popsicle (brand)

Popsicle is a brand of ice pop owned by Unilever. The original Popsicle was created by 11-year-old Frank Epperson in 1905 in Oakland, California. He accidentally left a mixture of powdered soda, water, and a stirring stick outside on a cold night, resulting in a frozen treat.

Epperson originally called his invention the "Epsicle," but later renamed it the "Popsicle." He patented the frozen confection in 1923. Initially, Popsicles were sold in a variety of flavors. A popular early offering was the "double" Popsicle, which had two sticks so it could be broken in half and shared.

In 1925, Epperson sold the Popsicle rights to the Joe Lowe Company. The Good Humor Corporation later acquired Popsicle. Today, Popsicles are a popular summer treat and are available in numerous flavors and varieties, including sugar-free options. The brand remains a well-recognized and widely distributed frozen dessert in the United States and beyond. Key competitors include other ice pop brands and frozen novelties. The brand leverages nostalgia and family-friendly appeal in its marketing efforts.
