Petra Pau

Petra Pau (born 9 August 1963 in East Berlin) is a German politician of the Die Linke (The Left) party. She has been a member of the German Bundestag since 1998.

Pau began her political career with the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) and later became involved with its successor, the Party of Democratic Socialism (PDS), which eventually merged to form Die Linke.

Within the Bundestag, Pau has focused primarily on social issues, including youth welfare, integration, and anti-discrimination. She is particularly known for her work against right-wing extremism and racism. From 2006 to 2021, she served as one of the Vice Presidents of the German Bundestag. In this role, she oversaw parliamentary procedures and represented the Bundestag. She is also a prominent voice on issues related to German-Jewish relations and remembrance culture.
