People's Party (Belgium)
The People's Party (French: Parti Populaire, PP) was a right-wing, liberal-conservative political party in Belgium. It was founded in 2009 by Mischaël Modrikamen, a lawyer, and dissolved in 2019 after failing to gain significant electoral support.
The party's platform generally advocated for policies such as stricter immigration controls, lower taxes, reduced government spending, and a stronger national identity. It was often characterized as populist and nationalist. The party also supported a more assertive Belgian foreign policy and advocated for reforms to the Belgian political system.
The People's Party participated in several Belgian elections, but it never achieved substantial electoral success. It held seats in the Belgian Federal Parliament for a limited period, primarily due to an alliance with another party. In the 2014 and 2019 elections, the party failed to secure any seats in the Chamber of Representatives.
The party faced internal divisions and challenges in maintaining a cohesive political message. Its leader, Mischaël Modrikamen, played a prominent role in the party's public image. After its dissolution, some former members went on to be involved in other political parties and movements.
