Pedro Ponce de Léon (bishop of Zamora)

Pedro Ponce de Léon (died 1315) was a Spanish clergyman and a member of the Ponce de León family. He served as the Bishop of Zamora from 1299 until his death in 1315. Prior to his appointment to the see of Zamora, details of his early life and career are scarce. His tenure as bishop occurred during a turbulent period in the history of the Kingdom of León and Castile, marked by political infighting and shifting alliances amongst the nobility. Historical records primarily document his involvement in various ecclesiastical and political matters related to the diocese of Zamora, including disputes over property rights and jurisdictional boundaries. His episcopate witnessed the continuing construction and development of the Zamora Cathedral, though the extent of his direct contribution remains unclear in surviving historical documents. He was succeeded as Bishop of Zamora by Rodrigo Pérez.
