Patrick Russell (bishop)
Patrick Russell (1726 – 16 May 1792) was an Irish Roman Catholic prelate who served as the Archbishop of Dublin from 1765 until his death in 1792.
Russell was born in Rush, County Dublin. He was appointed coadjutor archbishop of Dublin in 1761 and succeeded to the archbishopric in 1765. He served during a period of penal laws, and thus faced the challenges of maintaining the Catholic Church infrastructure and providing pastoral care to the Catholic population under restrictive legal conditions. During his episcopate, he worked to maintain religious education and support priests serving throughout the archdiocese. He is remembered for his dedication to his flock and his discreet navigation of the difficult political climate. He died in Dublin.
