Parachutist Badge (United States)

The Parachutist Badge, also known as the "Jump Wings," is a military badge of the United States Army and Air Force awarded to soldiers and airmen who complete the necessary parachute training at the Airborne School at Fort Moore (formerly Fort Benning), Georgia, or other approved airborne training programs.

The badge is awarded in three degrees: Parachutist Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, and Master Parachutist Badge. Each degree represents an increased level of experience, typically measured by the number of jumps performed, years of service in airborne units, and leadership roles held.

The basic Parachutist Badge is awarded upon successful completion of the basic airborne course. The Senior Parachutist Badge requires a minimum of 30 jumps, two years assigned to an airborne unit, and award of the basic Parachutist Badge. The Master Parachutist Badge requires a minimum of 65 jumps, 36 months assigned to an airborne unit, service as a jumpmaster, and award of the Senior Parachutist Badge.

The Parachutist Badge is authorized for wear on the Army and Air Force uniform, above any unit awards and below any combat or special skill badges. It signifies the wearer has met rigorous standards and is qualified to conduct parachute operations.

Different branches of the U.S. military offer specialized airborne training and badges, such as the Military Freefall Parachutist Badge, which recognizes specialized freefall jump qualifications. However, the Parachutist Badge described here is the initial and most widely recognized airborne qualification.
