Brian Duffy (astronaut)

Brian Duffy (born June 20, 1953) is a retired United States Air Force officer and NASA astronaut. He flew on four Space Shuttle missions: STS-45 (1992), STS-57 (1993), STS-72 (1996), and STS-92 (2000).

Duffy graduated from R.A. Long High School in Longview, Washington, in 1971. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from the United States Air Force Academy in 1975 and a Master of Science degree in Systems Management from the University of Southern California in 1982.

Prior to his astronaut career, Duffy was an F-15 pilot and test pilot. He graduated from the USAF Test Pilot School in 1985. He accumulated over 5,000 hours of flight time in more than 25 different aircraft.

Selected by NASA in June 1985, Duffy's first mission, STS-45, launched on March 24, 1992. The mission was dedicated to atmospheric and chemical research. STS-57, his second flight, launched on June 21, 1993, and featured the retrieval of the EURECA (European Retrievable Carrier) satellite. His third mission, STS-72, launched on January 11, 1996, and involved the retrieval of the Space Flyer Unit (SFU) satellite. His final mission, STS-92, launched on October 11, 2000, and focused on constructing the International Space Station (ISS), delivering the Z1 truss and Pressurized Mating Adapter (PMA-3).

Duffy retired from NASA in November 2001. Following his NASA career, he held positions in the aerospace industry.
