NGC 129

NGC 129 is an open cluster located in the constellation Cassiopeia. It was discovered by William Herschel on December 16, 1788. The cluster is estimated to be approximately 4,560 light-years away from Earth.

NGC 129 contains a number of stars, including the Cepheid variable star DL Cassiopeiae. This star allows for the determination of the cluster's distance and age, contributing significantly to our understanding of stellar evolution and galactic structure. The cluster is considered to be relatively young, with an estimated age of around 76 million years.

The cluster is relatively sparsely populated compared to other open clusters, but it is still visually appealing, particularly through telescopes. Its coordinates are approximately right ascension 00h 29m 58s and declination +60° 12′ 48″.

Studies of NGC 129 have helped refine our understanding of the distribution of stars in the Milky Way and the processes involved in star formation and cluster evolution.
