John Hayes (British politician)

John Hayes (born 23 June 1958) is a British Conservative Party politician who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for South Holland and The Deepings from 1997 to 2024.

Hayes held various ministerial positions during his parliamentary career. He served as a Minister of State at the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC), the Department for Transport, and the Home Office. He was known for his socially conservative views and his strong support for traditional British values.

Prior to entering Parliament, Hayes worked in business and served as a local councillor. He was educated at Spalding Grammar School and the University of Nottingham.

Throughout his time in Parliament, Hayes was involved in a number of parliamentary committees and all-party parliamentary groups. He was a vocal participant in debates on a range of issues, including energy policy, transport, immigration, and social policy.

In November 2023, Hayes announced he would not stand for re-election at the 2024 general election.
