Pai River
The Pai River is a river located in northern Thailand, primarily within the Mae Hong Son province. It originates in the Daen Lao Range, near the border with Myanmar, and flows generally southward through the mountainous terrain. It is a major tributary of the Salween River (also known as the Thanlwin River), eventually emptying into the Salween.
The Pai River is known for its scenic beauty and is a popular destination for whitewater rafting, kayaking, and other river-based recreational activities. The town of Pai, a popular tourist destination, is situated on its banks and takes its name from the river.
The river plays a crucial role in the local ecosystem, providing water for agriculture and supporting diverse flora and fauna. The river's flow can vary significantly depending on the season, with higher water levels during the rainy season (roughly June to October). Deforestation and changing land use practices in the surrounding watershed have impacted the river's flow and water quality in recent years. Efforts are being made to promote sustainable tourism and conservation initiatives to protect the Pai River and its environment.
