Arpège

Arpège, also spelled Arpege, has two principal meanings:

  1. Music: In music, arpège (French for "arpeggio") is a chord whose notes are played or sung in succession, either ascending or descending, rather than simultaneously. The term is derived from the Italian word arpeggio, which itself comes from arpa (harp). It is often associated with harp playing, as the instrument's physical design naturally lends itself to playing notes of a chord sequentially. However, arpeggios can be performed on any instrument capable of playing multiple notes. Arpeggios are frequently used to create melodic interest or to provide a sense of movement and harmonic color. They can be notated with a wavy vertical line placed before the chord.

  2. Perfume: Arpège is also a perfume created by the French fashion house Lanvin in 1927. It was designed by perfumers André Fraysse and Paul Vacher for Jeanne Lanvin's daughter, Marguerite di Pietro, who was a musician. The name "Arpège" was chosen to honor Marguerite's musical talent. The scent is known for its complex and sophisticated floral composition. The iconic black and gold bottle features a stylized image of a mother and daughter, representing Jeanne and Marguerite Lanvin.
