Outside Edge (TV series)
Outside Edge is a British television comedy-drama series, based on the stage play of the same name by Richard Harris. It revolves around the lives of members of a village cricket team, the Edgeley Cricket Club, and their long-suffering wives and girlfriends.
The series premiered in 1982 and starred Prunella Scales as Miriam, the domineering wife of the team captain, Roger, played by Robert Daws. The humour derived from the clash between the idyllic setting of village cricket and the complex personal relationships and rivalries within the team and their families.
The show ran for six series and a Christmas special, becoming a popular and enduring example of British situation comedy. Recurring themes included marital discord, infidelity, social climbing, and the often-unpredictable nature of amateur cricket. The series was known for its witty dialogue and well-developed characters. The final series aired in 1994.
