Antonio Rastrelli (politician)
Antonio Rastrelli (born December 15, 1927, Caserta, Italy; died February 15, 2019, Rome, Italy) was an Italian politician, lawyer, and academic. He served as the President of the Campania region from 1995 to 2000.
Rastrelli graduated in law and worked as a lawyer and professor of public law at the University of Naples Federico II. His political career began with the Christian Democracy (Democrazia Cristiana, DC) party. After the dissolution of DC in the early 1990s, he joined the Christian Democratic Centre (Centro Cristiano Democratico, CCD).
In 1995, he was elected President of Campania, leading a center-right coalition. During his presidency, he focused on issues such as public finances, infrastructure development, and the fight against organized crime. His tenure was marked by challenges related to waste management and allegations of corruption.
Following his term as President of Campania, Rastrelli remained active in politics. He was involved with various center-right political movements and continued to contribute to public discourse on regional and national issues until his death.
