Ostana

Ostana is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Cuneo in the Italian region Piedmont, located about 60 kilometers southwest of Turin and about 45 kilometers northwest of Cuneo.

Ostana is known for its efforts to revitalize after decades of population decline. Once a thriving community in the upper Po Valley, its population dwindled to just a handful of residents in the late 20th century. In recent years, Ostana has implemented various initiatives aimed at attracting new residents, including offering affordable housing and promoting sustainable tourism. These efforts have resulted in a gradual increase in population and a renewed sense of community.

The village is situated at an altitude of approximately 1,250 meters (4,100 feet) above sea level, offering panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. Its architecture reflects traditional Alpine styles, with stone buildings and wooden accents.

Ostana is part of the Occitan linguistic area, where the Occitan language is historically spoken. While Italian is the official language, efforts are being made to preserve and promote the local Occitan dialect.
