Tropical Storm Andres (1997)
Tropical Storm Andres was the first named storm of the relatively inactive 1997 Pacific hurricane season. Forming on June 2nd, 1997, from a tropical disturbance several hundred miles south of Mexico, Andres gradually strengthened over warm waters. The storm initially moved towards the northwest, but later shifted towards the west-northwest. Andres reached its peak intensity on June 3rd, with maximum sustained winds of 65 mph (105 km/h) and a minimum central pressure of 996 mbar.
Although Andres did not make landfall, its outer bands brought heavy rainfall and rough seas to parts of the southwestern coast of Mexico. No significant damage or casualties were reported. Andres began to weaken as it moved over cooler waters and encountered increasing wind shear. The storm was downgraded to a tropical depression on June 5th and dissipated shortly thereafter. While not a particularly strong or impactful storm, Andres marked the beginning of the 1997 Pacific hurricane season.
