Oruç Bey
Oruç Bey (c. 1360 - c. 1420) was an Ottoman chronicler who is best known for his history, Oruç Bey Tarihi (also known as Tevārīḫ-i Āl-i ʿOsmān). He was of Ottoman Turkish origin. His chronicle is a significant primary source for the early history of the Ottoman Empire, covering the period from the dynasty's legendary origins to the reign of Sultan Mehmed I.
Oruç Bey Tarihi is considered a relatively straightforward and less embellished account compared to some other Ottoman chronicles. It provides valuable insights into the Ottoman perspective on their own history and expansion. While the exact details of Oruç Bey's life remain scarce, his work has been studied by historians to understand the political, social, and military developments of the early Ottoman period. His chronicle has been translated into various languages and remains a key resource for researchers studying the formation and consolidation of the Ottoman state.
