Order of Merit (Malaysia)

The Order of Merit (Malay: Darjah Yang Mulia Pangkuan Negara) is a Malaysian federal award conferred by the King of Malaysia. It is awarded to individuals who have rendered meritorious service to the nation. The Order comprises three grades:

  • Grand Commander of the Order of Merit (Malay: Panglima Mangku Negara) - abbreviated PMN. Recipients are entitled to use the title "Tun" if they are Malaysian citizens. The PMN is the highest level of this order.
  • Commander of the Order of Merit (Malay: Johan Mangku Negara) - abbreviated JMN.
  • Companion of the Order of Merit (Malay: Kesatria Mangku Negara) - abbreviated KMN.

The Order is awarded for distinguished service in the fields of public service, arts, science, humanities, commerce, industry, social welfare, or other fields. Foreign nationals may also be admitted to the Order in an honorary capacity. The PMN is limited to 25 living individuals at any one time, excluding foreign recipients conferred honorarily. The JMN and KMN do not have specific numerical limits.
