Onychium
Onychium is a genus of leptosporangiate ferns belonging to the family Pteridaceae. These ferns are characterized by their finely divided, often lacy fronds, and their distinctive sporangia arrangement, which occurs along the veins near the margins of the pinnae and are covered by a false indusium formed by the reflexed margin of the leaf. Onychium species are primarily found in tropical and subtropical regions of Asia and Africa. The name "Onychium" is derived from the Greek word "onyx," referring to the claw-like appearance of the ultimate segments of the fronds in some species. These ferns are often cultivated as ornamental plants for their delicate foliage.
