Nikkorex

The Nikkorex was a brand of 35mm SLR cameras produced by Nippon Kogaku K.K. (later Nikon Corporation) primarily in the 1960s. These cameras were positioned as a more affordable alternative to Nikon's professional-grade cameras, aimed at amateur photographers.

Several Nikkorex models were released, each with varying features. Some notable models include:

  • Nikkorex 35: An early model with a fixed lens, meaning the lens was not interchangeable.
  • Nikkorex F: A more advanced model that accepted Nikon F-mount lenses, allowing for lens interchangeability, a key feature found on Nikon's professional cameras. This made it a more attractive option for enthusiasts looking to expand their photographic capabilities.
  • Nikkorex Zoom 35: A model equipped with a zoom lens, offering variable focal lengths without the need to swap lenses.

While offering affordability, the Nikkorex series generally lacked some of the advanced features and robust build quality found in Nikon's higher-end models. Production of the Nikkorex line ceased in the late 1960s, as Nikon focused on its core Nikon SLR systems. Despite their relatively short lifespan, Nikkorex cameras remain popular among collectors and enthusiasts of vintage cameras, especially the Nikkorex F due to its compatibility with Nikon lenses.
