Nervosa (band)
Nervosa was a Brazilian thrash metal band formed in 2010 in São Paulo. Initially an all-female trio, the band was noted for its aggressive sound and socially conscious lyrics, often addressing themes of misogyny, corruption, and social injustice.
The band's original lineup consisted of Fernanda Lira (bass and vocals), Prika Amaral (guitar), and Fernanda Terra (drums). They released their debut EP, "Time of Death," in 2012, followed by their first full-length album, "Victim of Yourself," in 2014, which garnered significant attention within the metal community.
Nervosa released several subsequent albums, including "Agony" (2016) and "Downfall of Mankind" (2018), solidifying their reputation as a prominent force in the thrash metal scene. They toured extensively worldwide, performing at major metal festivals and supporting established acts.
In 2020, a major lineup change occurred, with Fernanda Lira and Luana Dametto (who had replaced Fernanda Terra on drums in 2016) departing the band. Prika Amaral remained the sole original member and rebuilt the band with a new lineup consisting of Diva Satanica (vocals), Mia Wallace (bass), and Eleni Nota (drums). This new lineup released the album "Perpetual Chaos" in 2021.
Following further lineup changes, Amaral announced the disbandment of Nervosa in 2024, citing irreconcilable differences. Shortly after, it was revealed that Amaral would continue under a new project retaining the Nervosa name, while the former members announced a new project of their own. Nervosa's music is characterized by fast tempos, aggressive riffs, and politically charged lyrics, contributing to its recognition within the global thrash metal movement.
