NGC 414

NGC 414 is a lenticular galaxy located approximately 230 million light-years away in the constellation Pisces. It was discovered on October 22, 1867, by Truman Henry Safford.

As a lenticular galaxy, NGC 414 is characterized by a large-scale disk structure but lacking prominent spiral arms. It displays a smooth, bulge-dominated appearance, intermediate between spiral and elliptical galaxies. These types of galaxies are often found in denser environments such as galaxy clusters.

The galaxy is a member of the galaxy cluster Abell 194, a rich cluster also containing other notable galaxies such as NGC 407 and NGC 410. The cluster environment can influence the evolution of galaxies, potentially stripping them of their gas and dust and leading to the formation of lenticular galaxies like NGC 414. Studies of Abell 194 and its member galaxies, including NGC 414, contribute to a better understanding of galaxy evolution in dense environments.
