Minister of Agriculture (Italy)
The Minister of Agriculture (Italy), officially the Ministro dell'agricoltura, della sovranità alimentare e delle foreste (Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Forests), is a member of the Italian Cabinet responsible for overseeing the policies and activities of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests (formerly the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies, MIPAAF). The Minister is responsible for national agricultural policy, food production and safety, forestry, fisheries, and rural development.
The position's responsibilities include the formulation and implementation of agricultural legislation, management of agricultural subsidies and funding, promotion of Italian agricultural products both domestically and internationally, and oversight of agencies and organizations related to the agricultural sector. Furthermore, the Minister plays a crucial role in representing Italy's interests in agricultural matters at the European Union level, particularly in relation to the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). The Minister also addresses issues related to food sovereignty, ensuring the nation's capacity to produce and access sufficient food. Forestry management and related environmental concerns also fall under the Minister's purview.
The Minister is appointed by the President of the Republic upon the proposal of the Prime Minister. The tenure of the Minister typically coincides with the duration of the government in power. The Ministry headquarters are located in Rome.
