Michael Kraus (baritone)
Michael Kraus (born 1954) is an Austrian operatic baritone. He is particularly known for his performances in operas by Richard Strauss, Mozart, and Wagner.
Kraus studied voice at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. He began his career as a member of the ensemble at the Vienna State Opera in 1984 and remained there for many years, becoming a Kammersänger in 1996.
His repertoire includes roles such as Count Almaviva ( The Marriage of Figaro), Don Giovanni, Guglielmo ( Così fan tutte), Papageno ( The Magic Flute), Wolfram ( Tannhäuser), Beckmesser ( Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg), Olivier ( Capriccio), and Mandryka ( Arabella).
Kraus has performed at major opera houses and festivals around the world, including the Salzburg Festival, the Metropolitan Opera, Covent Garden, and La Scala. He has made numerous recordings, including complete operas and song recitals. He is also a sought-after concert singer, known for his interpretations of lieder.
