Michael Burrows (bishop)

Michael Geoffrey Burrows (born 1948) is an Irish Anglican bishop. He served as the Bishop of Cashel and Ossory in the Church of Ireland from 2006 to 2022.

Burrows was educated at Trinity College, Dublin, where he graduated with a degree in history and divinity. He was ordained a deacon in 1972 and a priest in 1973. He served as a curate in Dublin and then held various positions, including chaplain to Trinity College, Dublin, rector of a parish in Dublin, and Dean of Cork.

In 2006, he was elected Bishop of Cashel and Ossory, succeeding John Neill. He was consecrated bishop on 25 March 2006. His responsibilities covered a large geographical area in the south-east of Ireland.

Burrows is known for his engagement with social issues, his advocacy for interfaith dialogue, and his contributions to theological scholarship. He has written extensively on Irish church history and contemporary religious issues. He retired as Bishop of Cashel and Ossory in September 2022. His successor is Adrian Wilkinson.
