Hookeria

Hookeria is a genus of mosses belonging to the family Hookeriaceae. These mosses are typically found in humid, tropical and subtropical regions around the world, although some species occur in temperate zones. Hookeria mosses are characterized by their complanate (flattened) and often glossy leaves, which are arranged in a distichous (two-ranked) manner.

The plants are generally small to medium in size and often grow as epiphytes on trees or on rocks in moist environments. The leaves of Hookeria species commonly have a single costa (midrib) that is either short or absent, and the leaf cells are usually large and hexagonal. The seta (stalk supporting the capsule) is generally smooth, and the capsule itself is typically ovoid to cylindrical in shape.

Identification of Hookeria species can be challenging due to their morphological similarity. Microscopic examination of leaf cells and other features is often necessary for accurate identification.
