Meridional (album)
Meridional is the tenth full-length studio album by the American progressive metal band Between the Buried and Me, released on October 26, 2020, through Sumerian Records.
The album is a direct sequel to their 2007 album Colors. While Colors is known for its unpredictable shifts in genre and style, Meridional focuses on expanding and refining the more metallic and progressive elements established on its predecessor. According to the band, the goal was not to recreate Colors but to explore the musical landscape that Colors hinted at.
The title Meridional refers to "of or relating to the south" or "southern". This contrasts with the idea of Colors, which is broad and multifaceted. Meridional is conceptually tighter and thematically focused, representing a return to core musical ideas and a more direct musical approach.
Lyrically, Meridional explores themes of reflection, growth, and revisiting past experiences from a new perspective. The album's narrative builds upon the sonic landscape laid out in Colors, showing the evolution of both the band and the characters within their musical world.
The tracklist consists of the following songs:
- The Future Is Behind Us
- Double Helix of Extinction
- Fix the Error
- Ants of the Sky
