Matapédia (electoral district)
Matapédia was a provincial electoral district in Quebec, Canada that existed for several periods in the province's history.
History:
The district was first created for the 1867 election and existed until the 1890 election. It was then abolished and its territory redistributed.
The district was re-created for the 1939 election and existed until the 1973 election. Again, it was abolished and its territory redistributed into other ridings, primarily Matapédia-Matane.
A third iteration of the district was created for the 1981 election. It existed until the 1994 election, when it was merged into the Matapédia-Matane riding.
Geography:
The electoral district covered territory in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region of Quebec. Its namesake is the Matapédia Valley. The specific boundaries varied slightly over its different periods of existence.
