Mary Tamm
Mary Tamm (1950-2012) was a British actress best known for her role as Romana I, the first incarnation of the Time Lady Romana, companion to the Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker) in the BBC science fiction television series Doctor Who. She played the role for one season (1978-1979).
Tamm was born in Dewsbury, West Riding of Yorkshire, England. Prior to Doctor Who, she had appeared in roles in film and television, including The Odessa File (1974) and EastEnders. After leaving Doctor Who, she continued to work in television, theatre, and film. Notable roles included recurring appearances in Brookside and The Bill.
Tamm was married to Norman Boyd and had one daughter, Lauren. She published her autobiography, First Generation, in 2009. She died on July 26, 2012, after a long battle with cancer.
