Mario Velarde (footballer, born 1940)
Mario Velarde Velázquez (1940 – August 19, 1997) was a Mexican football midfielder and manager. He was born in Mexico City.
Velarde played most of his career for Club UNAM, appearing in 311 matches for the club. He also represented the Mexico national team at the 1962 FIFA World Cup, appearing in one match against Czechoslovakia.
After retiring as a player, Velarde became a football manager. He managed several clubs in the Mexican league, including Club UNAM, Cruz Azul, and Atlas. He led Cruz Azul to the Primera División title in the 1979-80 season.
