Malou (film)

Malou is a 1981 West German drama film directed by Jeanine Meerapfel. The film stars Ingrid Caven, Helmut Griem, and Grischa Huber. It tells the semi-autobiographical story of Hannah (Huber), a filmmaker, as she investigates the life and mysterious death of her mother, Malou (Caven), a Jewish woman who survived the Holocaust but struggled with her identity and past. The film explores themes of family history, trauma, memory, and the lingering effects of the Nazi era on subsequent generations. Malou received critical acclaim for its sensitive portrayal of complex emotional relationships and its exploration of German-Jewish identity.
