Mal Young
Mal Young (born c. 1956) is a British television producer and executive. He is best known for his work on long-running British soap operas, particularly Brookside, EastEnders, and Doctors.
Young held senior positions at several major UK broadcasters. He served as a producer on Brookside, contributing to the show's gritty realism and socially conscious storylines. He later became Controller of Continuing Drama at the BBC, a role that placed him in charge of EastEnders, Casualty, and Doctors. During his tenure, he oversaw significant changes to EastEnders, including cast changes and attempts to rejuvenate storylines. His time on EastEnders was met with both praise and criticism, with some viewers and critics questioning the direction the show was taking.
After leaving the BBC, Young served as Head of Drama for Lime Pictures, where he was responsible for overseeing drama output across multiple platforms. He has since continued to work in television production and consultancy.
