Dolly (tool)
A dolly is a wheeled platform used for moving heavy objects. It typically consists of a flat surface or frame supported by two or more wheels or rollers. Dollies are designed to provide a low, stable base that allows for the easy transportation of items that would otherwise be difficult or impossible to move by hand.
Dollies come in various sizes and configurations, depending on the load capacity and intended use. Small, hand-operated dollies are commonly used in warehouses, offices, and homes to move boxes, furniture, and appliances. Larger, industrial dollies are used in factories and construction sites to move heavy machinery, equipment, and materials.
Some dollies are equipped with handles or steering mechanisms to improve maneuverability. Others have brakes or locking mechanisms to prevent them from rolling away on uneven surfaces. The wheels can be made of different materials, such as rubber, plastic, or metal, depending on the surface the dolly will be used on and the weight of the load.
Dollies are a valuable tool for reducing the physical strain associated with lifting and carrying heavy objects, improving efficiency in material handling, and preventing workplace injuries. The term "dolly" can sometimes be used interchangeably with "hand truck" or "furniture mover," although these terms may refer to more specific types of wheeled platforms.
