Ludwik de Laveaux (painter)
Ludwik de Laveaux (1868-1894) was a Polish painter associated with the realist movement, particularly in Krakow. He was born in Jaronowice, Poland, and studied at the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts under Jan Matejko, Władysław Łuszczkiewicz, and Leopold Löffler. His work often depicted scenes of rural life, portraits, and landscapes, showcasing a keen observation of nature and the daily lives of peasants. De Laveaux’s promising career was tragically cut short by tuberculosis at the young age of 25. Despite his short life, his artistic contributions are recognized within Polish art history, specifically for his authentic and unromanticized portrayals of the Polish countryside. His paintings can be found in various Polish museums, including the National Museum in Krakow and the National Museum in Warsaw.
