Ludovico Gonzaga (bishop)

Ludovico Gonzaga (1494 – 1549) was an Italian Roman Catholic bishop. A member of the illustrious Gonzaga family of Mantua, he served as Bishop of Mantua from 1511 until his death.

His appointment as bishop at a relatively young age (around 17) was not uncommon during the Renaissance, often a result of familial influence and political maneuvering. While details of his episcopacy are sometimes sparse in standard historical accounts, his tenure coincided with a period of significant artistic and cultural flourishing in Mantua, largely patronized by his Gonzaga relatives who ruled the city. During his time, the city of Mantua underwent substantial urban development and became an important center of arts and learning.

While not canonized as a saint, Ludovico Gonzaga held a significant position within the Catholic Church during a period of reformation and change.
